One of the most popular Brisbane hotels with function rooms spread out over the three levels of the hotel, much of the focus is on our award-winning restaurant which is open for lunch and dinner five days a week.
You will find fresh, seasonal gastronomic pub food complimented by an impressive selection of fine wines and craft beers at The Alliance. Each level offers something different, from discerning diners to a casual place to share a drink with friends or a more intimate setting to enjoy a cocktail - there’s a space to suit everyone - with all levels and spaces available for private bookings (subject to availability).
Our History
Established in 1864 to service the local area and accommodate Queensland’s economic boom at the time, the pub has seen a variation on themes and over 150 years of stories and historic tales, while the building itself - the building we see today - was built in 1888 and has been preserved with its original charm intact both inside and out, making it ideal for all private and corporate functions held in Brisbane.
While The Alliance Hotel is today renowned for its superlative dining experiences, great wine and beer selection, intimate settings and versatile, unique function spaces, it's long been well-known for its colourful past and history of being a bit 'left-of-centre'. In 1878 the original licensee of The Alliance Hotel, Charles Zachariah Bertheau, produced Australia's first absinthe. In the 1890's and into the early 1900's, to be approved for a liquor licence, you needed to provide accommodation (now our Leichhardt Room) and also stalls for patrons horses, evident from the original brickwork and archways in our Chalet Bar.

selection of wines, beers and spirits - set in beautiful, surrounds that showcase the history of not only the building, but also the local
community. We proudly work with local suppliers to create menus that showcase the incredible Australian produce on offer.
At the end of 2023 the Alliance Hotel underwent a change of ownership/management. We are coming in with a simple mindset of turning The Alliance Hotel into your local once again. Over the beginning of 2024 we will be updating the food options, beverage menu, breathing life into the downstairs function spaces, reimagining the front bar and dining room to reflect *and amplify* the history and beauty of the building that has stood here since 1864.
Being taken over by a small team of hospitality professionals you will find we pride ourselves on incredible service, good food, great
drinks and an amazing atmosphere. We have updated our trading hours, now open Tuesday - Sunday from 12pm-10pm ( Kitchen open from
12pm-930pm). We look forward to introducing our new venue to you as we develop and grow with the local community!
